Jess Picco

Intern Counsellor, she/her

About Jess

Jess (she/her) is a cisqueer woman of Italian and British/English heritage who grew up in the Lynn Valley area. She’s excited to be back, supporting the evolving needs of the community she grew up in. A lifelong team sports enthusiast, Jess is passionate about community building and the healing that can take place within and beyond the counselling room.

Jess completed her practicum at Lynn Valley Counselling and is excited to be continuing as an intern counsellor at the clinic. She is working toward her Master of Counselling Psychology at Adler University and is on track to graduate in fall 2025.

With experience supporting individuals from young adulthood through to later life, Jess values the diverse perspectives people bring across all stages of the lifespan. Jess has experience supporting people with addictions, life transitions, and navigating relational changes. Jess has training in the Gottman Method for couples and has completed Crisis Line Training, both of which help her show up for people in meaningful, informed ways—no matter what they’re navigating.

Approach to Counselling

Jess takes a holistic approach to counselling, recognizing the deep connections between our psychological, physical, spiritual, and community well-being. She is committed to understanding the systemic factors that influence her clients’ concerns and encourages exploration beyond binary perspectives that can leave us feeling stuck, lonely, or misunderstood.

Community is central to Jess’s work. She sees therapy as a bridge to connection and belonging, especially in times when we need it most. She’s passionate about helping clients uncover their inner strength and wisdom while also building or reconnecting with a support system.

As a queer woman, Jess offers a non-judgmental, affirming space where individuals can be their authentic selves and explore their identities safely. She believes every client is unique, and that therapy should reflect that individuality whether it’s through how we access the space, the relationship that forms within it, or the shared process that unfolds during sessions. Jess values collaboration, choice, and pacing, inviting clients to share their stories in their own time and in their own way.
