Mackenzie Smith

Associate Counsellor, she/her
RCC # 24722

About Mackenzie

Mackenzie has completed her Master’s degree in Counselling and is excited to be continuing on at Lynn Valley Counselling. Mackenzie works with people dealing with a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, relational issues, stuckness, and grief and loss.  She sees individuals, from children to adults, and couples as well.

Mackenzie spent her early years moving in an overpacked van between Nova Scotia and the West Coast before her family finally settled in Vancouver. She has lived and worked in many Canadian cities and abroad before moving to Montreal in 2005 where she completed an entirely unrelated undergraduate degree in Creative Writing.  She resettled back in Vancouver where she is often walking with her dog, traveling to the Gulf Islands, writing short stories, thrifting or spending time with friends and family.

Approach to Counselling

Mackenzie is a compassionate and open-minded therapist who brings a non-judgmental presence to her practice. She aims to create a safe space where you can feel seen.

She is drawn to the innate resilience embedded into the stories we tell about who we are. Often, in exploring personal narratives, we begin to see how much of our identity was shaped in contexts where we had little agency.

With approaches that honour the complexity of the human condition, Mackenzie believes we all carry parts of us that are shaped by our history, culture and the power structures we exist within.  Drawing from a blend of somatic, narrative, attachment and mindfulness-informed approaches as well as a commitment to anti-oppressive practice, her hope is to walk alongside you into places more expansive and connected to both self and others.
