A conversation with Deb Cehak

Meet The Team

Deb Cehak, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, utilizes narrative therapy with collaboration and caring. She works with individuals, couples and families, helping them identify challenges in their lives and explore ways to live with greater joy and fulfillment. Deb strives to connect with each of her clients; children, teens or adults, and believes that the most effective work is done in a non-judgmental, safe environment. We asked Deb to tell us a little more about her approach to helping.

We know you are certified with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. What is next for you in your education?

I completed my Master’s degree through City University and I am currently working on my doctorate through California Southern University.

How long have you been practicing?

I have been practicing for two years.

What areas interest you the most in your practice?

I have never met a client I have not connected with nor a client I have not related to. I see a full range of clients, including individuals with a variety of concerns. That said, I am keenly interested in working with grief, couples, families, and adolescents.

What is your approach in your counselling approach? Are you more directive or more guiding?

I work collaboratively with clients. I have training and experience in therapy and psychology, and my clients are the experts in their lives. Together, through a lens of curiosity, we explore the problem, its effects on your life, and the context in which it developed (which includes social locations such as gender, race, sexuality, and the broader relational, social, and cultural contexts).

What should I expect when working with you?

You can expect respect, collaboration, curiosity, and a lot of questions. It is my hope to develop a space that feels safe, open-minded, and non-judgemental.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I am not working, I love spending time with my kids, running, practicing yoga, meditating, spending time in nature and with my friends, listening to music and dancing, and doing school work!

If you’re ready to embark on a journey towards fulfillment in your life, reach out to Deb today and begin your path towards a brighter tomorrow.
