A Conversation with Chelsea Reid

Meet The Team

Born and raised in Nanaimo, BC, Chelsea Reid enjoys the peace of mind that comes with time spent in nature. Chelsea is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Counselling from the University of Western Ontario. She works with children, teens and adults both online and in person.

Chelsea is known for her compassionate, engaged approach and utilizes therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to guide her work with clients.

1. How long have you been in practice as a counsellor?

Including my internship, it’s been a year!

2. What areas interest you the most in your practice?

With children and teens, I am focused on personal, social and behavioural issues. This kind of work can include bullying, gender identity, anxiety and abuse, just to name a few concerns. With adults, I work a lot with interpersonal issues as well as anxiety, depression and self-esteem concerns.

3. What should I expect when working with you?

When working with me, I will ask you questions to gain information about the different topics that you bring up in order to help you explore how similar patterns may be occurring in your life. Once the therapeutic relationship has been built, I may at times challenge you to look at things in an alternative way to help you reach where you want to go. It’s important for my clients to know that you do not have

to spend every minute of every session talking about vulnerable topics – I love when I am able to share a laugh with my clients!

4. How should I prepare for my first session?

Take a deep breath. The first time we meet each other can feel awkward, but reaching out is the hardest step in the counselling process. In our first session, I will spend the first bit telling you about myself and the type of work that I do. Afterward, I will ask you what brought you to counselling – it’s okay if you don’t know! Together we can work to explore what you’re hoping to gain.

5. What do you do to decompress after work?

When I’m not working, I can usually be found spending time outdoors or curled up on the couch with my cats and a good book. More recently, I’ve started doing paint by numbers in my spare time as well. It is such a great mindful activity to do!
